WASHINGTON -- Fifteen years ago, Harry and Louise helped sink the Clinton health care plan for the insurance industry. Tomorrow, they’ll return. And this time, they’re insisting on health care reform.
The resurrection of the couple from the iconic TV commercials of 1993-94 will be aired in a multimillion-dollar national advertising campaign to run through the Democratic and Republican national conventions.
Being unveiled at the National Press Club tomorrow, the commercial is sponsored by the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, the American Hospital Association, the Catholic Health Association, Families USA and the National Federation of Independent Business.
In the original commercial, Harry and Louise were portrayed as a typical, middle-aged couple struggling to figure out the bureaucratic jumble of a government health plan. Now, according to a news release put out today, the “famous couple at the kitchen table will remind America that they are still waiting for a better way.”
The commercial will run on Sunday morning news shows, on national cable networks, on Comedy Central and in the Denver/St. Paul local media, according to the sponsors.
