Boston (dbTechno) - According to a new study, not having health insurance could prove deadly in the long run. The study was put out by the non-profit group Families USA, and stated that people who do not have health insurance, put their well-being in danger.
The report stated that people who not not have health insurance tend to skip out on many common things. This includes check-ups at the doctors, as well as other preventive care. It could be annual screenings, vaccines, all of that routine stuff.
They found that people without health insurance are 25% more likely to die prematurely, compared to people with private health insurance.
Overall 22,000 people aged 25 to 64 died in the U.S. in 2006 due to a lack of health insurance.
The report broke down state-by-state to show the impact the lack of health insurance has on the people of each state in the U.S.
They found that 1,300 people, between the ages of 25 and 64 died in New York in 2006 because they did not have health insurance.
The numbers from 2000 to 2006 in New York were similar, with almost 10,000 people dying between that timespan due to a lack of health insurance.
Similar numbers were seen in other states as well, including Texas, Alamaba, and abroad.
Families USA has praised the health insurance proposals of Democratic presidential candidates Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama.
