WAUSAU, Wis. (AP) - A health insurance company in California has notified more than 100,000 doctors in 11 states, including Ohio, that their personal information was posted on the Internet, raising a risk of identity theft.
Spokeswoman Molly Tuttle said yesterday that doctors' Social Security numbers were accidentally posted for two months on a Health Net Federal Services Web site.
The mistake was attributed to human error and software problems. The government contractor provides health insurance for nearly 3 million military families and veterans in 23 states.
Tuttle said the company had no indication that personal information was misused.
HNFS will pay for a year's worth of credit monitoring for the doctors.
