Kay Granger Rep. Kay Granger, R-Fort Worth, said Thursday that she will reintroduce a bill to provide affordable healthcare though tax credits that could be used toward the purchase of medical insurance.
The Affordable Health Care Expansion Act would provide an upfront tax credit of $1,000 for individuals, $2,000 for married couples and $500 per dependent, up to $3,000 per family.
Granger made the announcement during a news conference at Cook Children's Medical Center in Fort Worth. The bill, which she plans to introduce when she returns to Washington, could reduce the number of uninsured by half, she said.
A similar proposal Granger introduced in 2005 would have supplied a prepayable, fully refundable tax credit toward the purchase of health insurance. It would have provided the same tax credits as the revised proposal.
More than 47 million Americans and almost 25 percent of Texans don't have health insurance, Granger said.
