New Child Health Insurance Program Begins

Starting February 1, all children in Wisconsin will have access to health care.
At a press conference Thursday, lawmakers and La Crosse County Health officials introduced BadgerCare Plus. It's a new health insurance program that will provide all children in the state with health care, regardless of income. BadgerCare Plus will also offer affordable health care to working families and pregnant women.
County officials say this is a big step forward for improving health care access in our state. "We know that if we have a bit of prevention, if we prevent things early on, they don't mushroom into bigger problems, health problems down the road," says Linda Lee from the La Crosse County Health Department.
BadgerCare Plus will primarily benefit low-income children and families that do not currently have access to affordable health insurance. Click here for more information about the program.
